BARCELONA MODERNISM ROUTE

Departure from the Axa Auditorium on Tuesday, 09th August at 9 a.m.  Guided tour (public transport and by walking).
Maximum participants: 30.

One of the first stops will be La Sagrada Familia which is undoubtedly the most famous symbol of the modernist architecture of Barcelona and the most influential work by Gaudí. The best way to know Gaudí projects is to visit Sagrada Familia Museum, which exhibits abundant graphic material on the design of this temple. You will climb to the top of one of the towers of the temple, which offers extraordinary views both of the city and of the temple itself. After that we will take the Metro to arrive to Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most beautiful Avenue of Barcelona.  To walk down Passeig de Gràcia is take a look of Catalan modernism, from its benches to its street lamp, and almost all of its buildings. 

One of the other stops will be at the latest building designed by Gaudí: La Casa Milà, also called La Pedrera. All of the structural designs, the inner space and furniture, down to the smallest details, chimneys, banisters, door knobs, etc., are work of the great Gaudí, who was rewarded posthumously when the UNESCO declared La Pedrera to be a World Heritage site.

In a few meters you will find a good example of Catalan-modernism architecture The Illa de la Discòrdia (Block of Discord) the 100 meters of Barcelona street that contain three masterpieces by the three main Modernists architects: Lluís Domènech i Montaner (Casa Lleó Morera), Josep Puig i Cadafalch (Casa Amatller) and Antoni Gaudí (Casa Batlló).
